China, Southeast Asia: what's next on Travelgate's agenda

Asia is already an important part of the Travelgate Network — and our presence in the region continues to grow.

With team members based in China and the Philippines, China already ranking among our top source markets by booking share, and Travelgate leadership returning to the country for the second consecutive year, we are continuing to strengthen the connection between our global Network and one of the world’s most dynamic travel regions.

A key market in the Travelgate Network

China’s hotel and tourism market operates at a scale few other markets can match. In 2025, the country recorded 6.52 billion domestic trips, up 16.2% year on year, while its hotel and tourism sector was valued at around $406 billion.

But scale is only part of what makes China different.

Its travel distribution ecosystem has developed around highly local digital behaviours, with more than 80% of hotel bookings taking place through mobile apps and super-app ecosystems. For global travel companies, succeeding in this environment requires both strong connectivity and an understanding of how the local market operates.

For Travelgate, China is not a new market on the horizon. It is already among the top four source markets on the Travelgate Network by booking share.

That activity is part of a Network processing more than 19 billion searches every day, 65,000+ daily bookings and over €5 billion in annual transaction value, connecting Buyers and Sellers and enabling hotel distribution at global scale.

Southeast Asia is also becoming an increasingly important part of this global picture. Across the region, strong local and regional players coexist across multiple markets, creating a diverse distribution landscape where connectivity and local expertise matter.

 Local presence, global Network

The team on the ground

Travelgate’s presence in Asia starts with people on the ground.

Christina Jiang, Key Account Manager for China, has been based in Shenzhen since October 2025, bringing Travelgate closer to the market and supporting the continued development of our Network in China.

In May 2026, Jessy Rose Magno joined Travelgate as Technical Account Manager in the Philippines, adding local technical expertise and strengthening our presence across Southeast Asia.

Having commercial and technical expertise based directly in the region means being closer to how these markets operate every day, while connecting that local knowledge with the scale and technology of the global Travelgate Network.

Back in China for a second year

Leadership returns for a second year

Local presence is complemented by regular time on the ground from Travelgate’s leadership team.

This September, Luisa Camara, Chief Commercial Officer, and Fabián Núñez, VP Commercial, are returning to China for a two-week trip, following their visit in 2025.

Their agenda will take them through Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen. The trip will also include TravelDaily Conference 2026 in Shanghai, on September 22–23, one of the key industry moments on Travelgate’s China agenda this year.

Returning for a second consecutive year is part of a broader commitment: maintaining continuity in the market, understanding first-hand how China’s travel ecosystem is evolving, and keeping our global strategy connected to what is happening locally.

Travelgate’s infrastructure already connects travel businesses around the world. Our growing presence across China and Southeast Asia brings another essential layer to that Network: people who understand the market, based in the market, connected to a global distribution ecosystem.
