Last week, the vibrant Stadio Son Moix in Mallorca hosted one of the travel industry's most exclusive events — ConX 2025, an invitation-only gathering of more than 1,000 leaders and innovators from around the globe. Among the highlights of the event was a captivating appearance by Johan Lundgren, former CEO of easyJet (2017–2024), who shared valuable insights drawn from his years of leadership in the aviation sector.
In this interview for our Media Partners EFE, Lundgren explored key themes shaping the present and future of travel:
Resilience and Recovery Post-COVID: Lundgren emphasized the remarkable recovery of the air travel and leisure industries following the pandemic. Demand has surged as people return to travel not only for holidays but also to reconnect with experiences and loved ones.
Evolving Travel Behavior: While travelers continue to favor traditional destinations like Mallorca, Turkey, and Greece, there’s a noticeable shift in priorities. “People are choosing experiences over possessions,” Lundgren noted, adding that the trend toward meaningful travel is here to stay.
The Blending of Work and Leisure: With remote work becoming a norm, many are choosing to work from hotels and holiday destinations. This shift brings new expectations — particularly the need for reliable Wi-Fi and work-friendly environments.
Low-Cost Travel: A Lasting Revolution: Low-cost carriers, Lundgren affirmed, have “revolutionized mobility,” especially across Europe. He highlighted that the model remains not only viable but profitable, provided airlines stay focused on efficiency and customer satisfaction.
The Value of Operational Excellence: Punctuality, network reach, and delivering a seamless travel experience are essential. “Flying on time isn’t a luxury — it’s an expectation,” he stressed.
Travel in Uncertain Times: In a volatile geopolitical climate, travel has become something people actively protect. More than just a luxury, it’s now considered an essential part of life and well-being.
Growing the Map: New Destinations. Lundgren encouraged the development of emerging destinations, calling on local authorities and hospitality sectors to meet rising demand while maintaining cultural and environmental integrity.
Adding a creative and personal twist to his appearance, Johan was joined on stage by his music partner, Fredrick, who performed live during the event, a unique and memorable blend of business insight and artistic expression.
ConX continues to be a cornerstone event for the travel industry, a space for bold ideas, collaboration, and forward thinking. Johan Lundgren’s talk was a strong reminder that the future of travel will be shaped not only by strategy and technology, but by human connection, adaptability, and passion.
